Cormorant Books, 2008

In dance, we refer to a frame. This new novel about Holocaust Survivors has the frame of authenticity. Its first person narration reads like documentary. Like Markus Zusak’s remarkable novel, The Book Thief, it reminds us of what we must not forget, despite the negative comment I read in the guest book at a recent Holocaust art show at the Jewish Community Centre; “Leave it behind.” How can we so long as wrongs are repeated? The parable about sour grapes in the book of Isaiah continues to prove itself. Harm done to children damages the culture and that damage lasts for generations.
