Momentary Dark by Margaret Avison

McClelland & Stewart, 2006

Margaret Avison, who died in 2007 at the age of 89, is one of Canada's most brilliant poets. She was born in Galt, a small village that is now part of Cambridge, Ontario, a few miles near my home stomping grounds of Kitchener. As well as this collection, I also loved Concrete and Wild Carrot, from Brick Books. Avison's poems are beautifully written, intelligent and spiritual, filled with everyday landscapes and images given importance and attention.
