This isn’t so much a great read as it is a great entrance point into learning about the people and the debates of contemporary Canadian poetry. I wrote an article critiquing their use of the term “radical” – the poets discussed are not our far leftist authors, who do not appear in the book – and then I also critiqued their use of 1957, as if experimental writing in Canada began with the Boomers. Although they probably think I’m a bit of a crank, this book is definitely worth reading – if for no other reason than the fact that it is the only one to address the topic with a wide lens.
