Trillium Book Awards Author Reading 2015

Dennis McCloskey, Contest, Interviews & Events

Share |

Dear Readers,

In 1991, Dennis McCloskey, Open Book: Toronto's January Writer in Residence, was given the assignment by Books in Canada to ask famous Canadian authors, "What advice would you offer a person who aspires to a writing career?" In his blog entries, "Writerly Advice (Part One)" and "(Part Two)," he shares some authorial wisdom from Joy Fielding, Robertson Davies, Marie-Claire Blais and several others. The number one piece of advice that the writers offered was to read lots and write lots, but they all included other pearls as well, such as, "don't let a day go by without heating up your word processor to incandescence" (Farley Mowat) and "forgive your parents" (June Callwood). Have some writing advice that you'd like to offer? Post it on Dennis's blog and your name will be entered in a draw for a Sony Reader. Click here for full contest details.
