The League of Canadian Poets is pleased to announce this year's National Poetry Month in April featuring renowned poets who will present a series of readings in several cities in Canada. The theme for 2010 is Climate Changes.

To launch the National Poetry Month in Toronto, there will be a special press breakfast on Thursday, April 1, 2010 where several well known poets will present readings at the official launch. The awards shortlist for the Gerald Lampert Award and the Pat Lowther Award categories will also be announced that morning.

Times are as follows:

9:15 – 9:45 AM: Awards Shortlist Announcement / Live Readings

9:45 – 9:50 AM: Writer Toby Brooks, author of Pat Lowther’s Continent: Her Life and Work speaks about Pat Lowther

9:50 – 10:15 AM: Q&A Session and Interviews with the Media

This year, the League will also be celebrating the 75th birthday of Pat Lowther. The event is open to the public. Young Poets Week will take place April 12 to 16, 2010.

Established in Canada in April 1998 by the League, National Poetry Month brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries and poets across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada's culture. Communities and businesses participate through readings, festivals, book displays and other events in several unique venues including parks, movie theatres, art galleries and a local zoo.
