As Canada’s largest children’s literary festival, Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™, held in Toronto, draws more than 8,000 young readers for two fun-filled days of award ceremonies, the IFOA-programmed ALOUD: a Celebration for Young Readers, workshops, activities and other exciting entertainment all in celebration of Forest of Reading®.

On May 14 and 15, programme partners the Ontario Library Association and IFOA celebrate seven years of the event taking place at the Harbourfront Centre site. Each Forest of Reading® award programme will receive a dedicated ceremony announcing the year’s winner and will be supplemented by activities throughout the day.

The Festival of Trees™ includes the following award ceremonies: the Blue Spruce™ Award (Kindergarten–Grade 2), Silver Birch® Express Award (Grade 3–4), Silver Birch® Fiction Award (Grade 3–6), Silver Birch® Non-fiction Award (Grade 3–6), Red Maple™ Fiction Award (Grade 7–8), Le Prix Peuplier (French-language, Kindergarten-Grade 2), Le Prix Tamarac (French-language, Grade 4–6), Le Prix Tamarac Express (French-language, Grade 4–6) and the White Pine™ Fiction Award (Grade 9–12).

Students across Ontario are now in the midst of reading the nominated works and will cast votes for their favourite titles in April.

This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Silver Birch® programme. For the past 20 years, the Forest of Reading®’s Silver Birch® programme has taught children, through adventurous fiction and informative non-fiction titles, to read for the fun of it. To date, approximately 40 authors have won the Silver Birch® Award.

Tickets to Forest of Reading® Festival of Trees™ are $15 each (including HST).
