Loyalty Management is the selection for the 2009 Keep Toronto Reading One Book programme (keeptorontoreading.ca). Geoff Dyer’s (UK) oeuvre includes everything from a seminal book on jazz (But Beautiful) to a chronicle of the “self-journey” (Yoga for People Who can’t be Bothered to Do it), to three novels (Paris Trance, The Search, The Colour of Memory). He reads from Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi, a new novel set against some of the world’s great waterways and involving a journalist and the contemporary art world. Jackson, Mississippi-raised Kathryn Stockett’s (USA) debut novel, The Help, has garnered praise everywhere from People to The New York Times. It is the story of three women (two black, one white) in 1960s Mississippi, whose friendship crosses the lines of race, class and age as the momentous events of the civil rights movement unfold around them. Anne Hines (Canada) hosts.

The event take place in the Brigantine Room. Tickets are $8 to the general public, free for members and students with valid ID (unless otherwise noted).
