Looking for advanced writers for a weekly workshop in the Junction. Alison Gadsby is the founder of a west end workshop that meets downtown. From Alison:

I am starting a writers' co-op in my neighbourhood and would like this new workshop's home to be here.

I am looking for great writers. You do not have to have publishing credits, you don't have to have won awards, but I would like work that comes from experience. As Junot Diaz says, great writers are usually great readers. If you are an avid reader who understands the arc and language of a great story and have been working at writing your own, then get in touch.

I recently finished my MFA in Creative Writing from UBC. I have won a few awards, but have nothing to truly rave about. My novel is currently on submission at a few publishers. Just waiting for those rejection letters to come flooding in before I sit down and rewrite the whole thing.

What I would like from you. A friend and I will read your work and we will meet up. The best ten of us will move forward with the workshop. And believe me, this may exclude me, if we come across some fabulous work. Can you please send a story, or a segment of a story or your novel? No more than 5000 words please. I am happy to share my work as well.

Although I love speculative and genre fiction and poetry, I think it is too difficult to critique work that really needs the eye of a great fan and someone who understands the genre inside out and backwards. This workshop will be for literary fiction only. This does not exclude magic realism or other surreal and adventurous work, though.

If you are a beginner and are interested in Intro writing classes, please get in touch. I will keep you on the list for our workshops that will begin in the Spring. These will include, screenwriting, playwriting, short story and novel writing.

Thanks for taking the time. I look forward to hearing from you.
