Details

Drop in all afternoon to see the beautiful historic sanctuary of the Kiever Synagogue and celebrate the shul's 100th birthday!

Speak with Sara Ferdman Tauben, author of the new book Traces of the Past: Montreal’s Early Synagogues (Vehicule Press)— a new book on Montreal synagogues built at the same time as this treasure of Kensington Market

View an exhibition of stunning photographs of synagogues and city spaces by David Kaufman, installed for one weekend only, and meet the photographer.

At 3:00p.m. Sara is leading a tour and discussion of the architectural features of the sanctuary, looking at the Kiever in relation to architectural precedents from 19th-century Europe and synagogues of the same time period in Montreal.

Also starting 3:00p.m. is the shul's birthday party! Fun for the whole family from ages 1 to 100 with Kensington Market stories, birthday cake, Yiddish song, and a kids-eye tour of David's photo exhibition. Join your kids in rediscovering Kensington Market at the time when the Kiever was built or join the tour of the sanctuary’s architecture.

RSVP is appreciated for the birthday party with names and ages of your kids to lisa.rosen@gmail.com
