Open Book Literary Salon 2014: Advice for Myself — Writers On What They Wish They Knew Back Then

What is the most important advice for a writer just starting out? From craft to career, we're talking to three of Toronto's favourite authors — Stacey May Fowles, Brian Francis and Michael Winter — about what advice they would offer to their younger selves, and to writers getting started today.

These talented authors will draw on their experience to tackle questions covering everything from agents, teaching gigs and money management to writers' block, editorial relationships, submitting and querying and, of course, questions of craft (is there a best time of day to write? Is outlining better than free form? Are the characters really in charge?).

We're inviting readers, book lovers and writers at all stages of their careers to join us in a relaxed, salon environment, where guests are welcome to add their own questions and comments to the discussion. Open Book and CBC Books columnist Becky Toyne will moderate. All are welcome — whether established or aspiring, this will be a conversation no writer should miss!

Open Book gratefully acknowledges the support of the Toronto Arts Council in bringing this event to the reading public.
