Art Bar Poetry Series at Clinton's. S.E. Venart reads from her new book Woodshedding (Brick Books), with John Steffler, Canada's poet laureate, author of The Grey Islands (Brick Books) and Paul Vermeersch, author of Between the Walls (McClelland & Stewart).

S.E.Venart’s work has been published in many Canadian journals and magazines. Recent awards include This Magazine's Great Canadian Literary Hunt and the CBC-QWF Short Story Award. She received fellowships to attend writing retreats in Europe, the US and Canada. Venart lives in Montreal with her husband, Mathieu Robitaille, and their daughter, Olive. She teaches literature and creative writing at John Abbott College.

John Steffler was born in Ontario in 1947, but since 1975 has lived in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, where he teaches at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College. His other books of poetry are An Explanation of Yellow (1981), The Wreckage of Play (1988), and That Night We Were Ravenous (1998). He has also written a children's book, Flights of Magic (1987), and a novel, The Afterlife of George Cartwright, which won the Smithbooks/Books in Canada first novel award and the Thomas Raddall Award, and was shortlisted for the Governor General's Award and the Commonwealth Prize for Best First Book.

Paul Vermeersch is the author of three collections of poetry: The Fat Kid, Burn, a finalist for the Gerald Lampert Award, and, most recently, Between the Walls. He is also the editor of the anthology The I.V. Lounge Reader. His poetry has been published widely in literary journals and magazines across the country. He lives in Toronto, where he is poetry editor for Insomniac Press.
