Travelling the world can be fun but being able to turn your stories and photos into published articles can be even better. This seminar will explore the ins and outs of travel writing, how to take better pictures to accompany your stories, and how to start building the necessary skills to start or continue a career as a travel writer or photographer. First, learn what makes a compelling story and what articles publications are buying these days. Discover the importance of good quotes, how to construct a query letter to send to editors and why photography can enhance your articles-and possible income.

In the second half of the seminar, practice with your own camera in a hands-on photo session that will let us shoot outdoors by the Toronto waterfront. Discover how to make better use of your camera to take the kind of photos that tell stories and apply techniques that will give you creative control of your picture making.

After this five-hour interactive session, you will walk away with more knowledge on how to:

* Recognize the subtle differences in writing for newspapers, magazines and the Internet

* Create content that will appeal to today's editors and publishers

* Craft a winning query letter that best illustrates your story idea

* Make eye-stopping photo compositions

* Learn the keys to telling stories with your photographs

* Work with different kinds of existing light

N.B. Point and shoot or DSLRs cameras are both welcome
