Photos! Charles Taylor Prize 2013 Shortlist Announced

This morning at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto, media and book lovers gathered to hear the announcement of the 2013 Charles Taylor Prize for Literary Non-Fiction shortlist. From a longlist of 15, five worthy Canadian non-fiction titles were selected by the jury consisting of Susanne Boyce, Richard Gwyn and Joe Kertes. The prize, which carries a $25,000 award for the winner, was founded by Noreen Taylor to honour her late husband's legacy by rewarding the finest work of non-fiction each year, with juries selecting based on a combination of stylistic excellence and perceptive, intelligent content. Richard Gwyn introduced his fellow jurors, who announced the finalists. In his comments, Gwyn noted that the shortlist showed "Canadian writers at ease with the world" and praised their ability to write about the rest of the world with "flair and accuracy".
