Photos! The Writers' Trust Gala & Fellowship Announcement
Submitted by Grace on November 27, 2015 - 5:20pm
On Wednesday evening, book lovers, sponsors, authors and media gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Toronto to raise funds for the Writers' Trust of Canada, an organisation that gives more money every year to Canadian writers than any other non-governmental body. A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the first ever Writers' Trust Fellowship. The $50,000 title went to Newfoundland writer Michael Crummey. CBC's Steve Patterson, host of Radio 1 comedy program The Debaters, kept the crowd laughing all evening. Each table hosted a Canadian author and guests were sent home with a copy of their guest writer's most recent book. Authors present included John Irving, Lawrence Hill, Margaret Trudeau and dozens of others. Check out these photos, courtesy of the Writers' Trust, for a glimpse into the glamorous evening, which raised over $225,000 for the Trust, enabling it to continue its essential support of Canadian writers and literature.
