Writers' Trust Gala 2011
Last night in Toronto, the Writers' Trust of Canada hosted their annual fundraising gala.
More than 450 people attended. The charity raised more than $180,000 to support the Writers' Trust's programs. CTV's Seamus O'Regan and CBC's Amanda Lang hosted the event, which opened with a video featuring Jane Urquhart, Yann Martel, Lawrence Hill, Anna Porter and Graeme Gibson (founding member of the Writers' Trust) talking about why the organization is important. Graeme Gibson called the Writers' Trust "a great big friend to writers" and said that "a country without a rich culture is a very bleak place".
Be sure to check out Open Book's interview series Writers at Night with several of the evening's guest authors.
