Six English books and five French books have been short-listed for the 22nd Annual Trillium Book Award/ 22e édition du Prix littéraire annuel Trillium, the Ontario government’s prestigious award for literature. Add these amazing, Ontario-authored books to your summer reading list. Here are the shortlist details:

This year’s six English Finalists for the Trillium Book Award/Prix Trillium are:

Kevin Connolly, Revolver (House of Anansi Press)
Helen Humphreys, Coventry (HarperCollins Publishers)
Ibi Kaslik, The Angel Riots (Penguin Group Canada)
Pasha Malla, The Withdrawal Method (House of Anansi Press)
Nino Ricci, The Origin of Species (Doubleday Canada)
Charles Wilkins, In the Land of Long Fingernails (Penguin Group Canada)

This year’s five French Finalists for the Trillium Book Award/ Prix Trillium are:

Marguerite Andersen, Le figuier sur le toit (Les Éditions L’Interligne)
Hédi Bouraoui, Cap Nord (Les Éditions du Vermillon)
Daniel Marchildon, L’eau de vie (Les Éditions David)
Melchior Mbonimpa, La terre sans mal (Prise de parole)
Nancy Vickers, Aeterna Le jardin des immortelles (Les Éditions David)

This year’s three Finalists for the Trillium Book Award for Poetry in English language are:

Jeramy Dodds, Crabwise to the Hounds (Coach House Books)
Joanne Page, Watermarks (Pedlar Press)
Adam Sol, Jeremiah, Ohio (House of Anansi Press)

This year’s three Finalists for the Trillium Book Award for Children’s Literature in French language are:

Michèle Laframboise, La Quête de Chaaas tome 1 (Éditions Médiaspaul)
Françoise Lepage, Les chercheurs d’étoiles (Les Éditions L’Interligne) Paul Prud’Homme, Les Rebuts : Hockey 2 (Les Éditions du Vermillon)

On June 15, 2009 the public are invited to join in the celebration of the finalists of this year’s 22nd Trillium Book Award with authors’ readings followed by a reception. The event will be held in the Brigantine Room, York Quay Centre, 235 Queen’s Quay West, in association with Author Readings at Harbourfront Centre. You can find those event details here.

"We are proud to showcase and honour Ontario’s deep pool of talented writers with the Trillium Book Award. On behalf of the Ontario Government, I congratulate this year's short-listed authors and their publishers on this significant recognition of their work," said the Honourable Aileen Carroll, Ontario Minister of Culture. On June 16, 2009, she will announce the winners in Toronto at a luncheon at the Park Hyatt.
