CBC reveals the 2013 Canada Reads List!

This year, CBC's influential Canada Reads contest gets a regional twist, with one novel from each of five areas across the country competing for the prestigious prize.

CBC broadcaster and host of Canada Reads Jian Ghomeshi gave twitter followers a thrill this morning, announcing the hotly anticipated contenders, as well as the panelists who will defend the titles during a series of debates in February 2013. A radio announcement followed shortly on Q, Jian's popular morning show.

  • Representing British Columbia and Yukon: Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese (Douglas & McIntyre)

  • Representing Prairies and North: The Age of Hope by David Bergen (HarperCollins Canada)

    Defended by sportscaster Ron MacLean

  • Representing Ontario: Away by Jane Urquhart (McClelland & Stewart)

    Defended by writer and academic Charlotte Gray

  • Representing Quebec: Two Solitudes by Hugh MacLennan (McClelland & Stewart)

    Defended by actor Jay Baruchel

  • Representing Atlantic Provinces: February by Lisa Moore (House of Anansi)

    Defended by comedian Trent McClellan
