Class is in Session this Fall as International Festival of Authors Partners with Humber School for Writers

From our friends at Authors at Harbourfront Centre:

In its ever-growing goal to connect new writers with established authors both nationally and internationally, the International Festival of Authors (IFOA) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with the Humber School for Writers (HSW) this fall. From June to September, students can apply to be a part of the fall workshop, which will coincide with the 34th annual International Festival of Authors (October 24 to November 3).

“This partnership is the perfect pairing,” says Antanas Sileika, Director of the HSW. “The Humber School for Writers injects jet fuel into the literary mind in the same way the Festival does — by providing people the opportunity to engage with authors in a way unlike anything else they’ve experienced.”

This year’s fall workshop runs October 27 to November 1 with faculty including authors Wayson Choy, Hari Kunzru, Francine Prose, Richard Scrimger, Olive Senior and Miriam Toews. These authors will also play a roll in the programming for the IFOA. Classes will take place throughout the Harbourfront Centre site and IFOA evening events will be part of the curriculum.

“To co-program a well-established writing workshop alongside our Festival is a win-win situation,” says Geoffrey E. Taylor, Director of Authors at Harbourfront Centre. “We see the advantage in having writing students work directly with authors during IFOA. This initiative brings our partnership with Humber to a new level."

Weekend workshops will also take place in Thunder Bay with Humber School for Writers founder, Joe Kertes, and Woodstock with long-time Humber teacher Kim Moritsugu.

For information on how to register for the HSW, visit their website or call Hilary Higgins at 416-675-6622 ext. 3449.
