Dennis McCloskey Wins Helene Kenigsberg Award

Former Open Book Writer-In-Residence Dennis McCloskey has been selected as the winner of the Helene Kenigsberg Award for Excellence in Public Awareness of Polycystic Kidney Disease for his book, My Favorite American (General Store Publishing House), a biography of Valen Cover, a 27-year-old kidney transplant recipient. The award is administered by the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation of Canada (PKDFOC).

Jeff Robertson, Executive Director of the PKDFOC said of My Favorite American, “This book, with such incredibly strong themes of perseverance and hope, depicts how Ms. Cover lives life to its fullest and encourages and inspires everyone who reads her story, through McCloskey’s words, to do the same.”
