Glen Downie Wins Toronto Book Award

Glen Downie was awarded the 2008 Toronto Book Award for his work of poetry, Loyalty Management (Wolsak and Wynn). The judges describe Downie’s book as “Undeniably Torontonian, Downie's poems travel nimbly through our old Victorian homes, up the trees in our yards, down our streets and into other lands.

This book evokes vibrant images of objects and relationships, filtered through layers of immense kindness, a shrewd eye for deceit, and an established technical skill. These poems are richly textured and utterly readable.”

The 2008 finalists for the award were And Beauty Answers: The Life of Frances Loring and Florence Wyle (Cormorant Books) by Elspeth Cameron, Soucouyant (Arsenal Pulp Press) by David Chariandy, Loyalty Management (Wolsak and Wynn Publishers) by Glen Downie, Long Story Short (House of Anansi Press) by Elyse Friedman and Helpless (HarperCollins) by Barbara Gowdy.
