Joey Comeau Shortlisted for the Danuta Gleed Award

On May 17th, the Writers Union of Canada announced the shortlist for the Danuta Gleed Award. The award is for the "Best first collection of short fiction in the English language," and it was founded by John Gleed "in honour of his late wife to promote and celebrate the genre of short fiction, which she loved."

Joey Comeau has been shortlisted for the Denuta Gleed Award for his book Overqualified (ECW Press), a collection of stories consisting of job application letters, which the Globe and Mail praised for its " knife-edged malice and stomach-tearing hilarity" and McLean's called "one of the season's most remarkable books." Comeau recently participated in Open Book's Toronto Literary Salon, which was held last month at The Spoke Club, and we're delighted to announce that he will be our September 2010 Writer in Residence. His latest book, One Bloody Thing After Another, is published by ECW Press.

Also nominated for the Denuta Gleed Award are Deborah Willis for Vanishing and Other Stories (Penguin Canada) and Sarah Roberts for Wax Boats (Caitlin Press). The winner will be announced on June 5th.
