From our friends at the CBC Literary Awards:

Today is October 1st, which means that Canadian writers only have 31 days left to get their submissions in to the 2010 CBC Literary Awards.

We are looking for your original and unpublished short stories, poetry and creative nonfiction, in both official languages. First prize in all three categories is $6,000 and second prize is $4,000, courtesy of the Canada Council for the Arts. In addition, the winning texts are published in Air Canada's enRoute magazine and on our website, and the authors and their winning entries will get exposure on the CBC.

Find out more information, or submit online, by visiting www.cbc.ca/literaryawards. The deadline is November 1st, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. (EST).

New this year! André Alexis to lead online literary workshops

Before you send in your submission to this year's competition, we thought it might be helpful to have one of Canada's most prominent writers offer some feedback and insight into the writing process. As of October 4th, award-winning writer André Alexis will be our guest on the Literary Awards website, blogging and offering expert advice on anonymous excerpts of short stories currently in progress.

We are inviting you to take part in the discussion by sharing any insights or opinions that you might have on these workshops, and the writing process, on our website. By doing this we hope to inspire writers from coast to coat to engage with each other in a way that will be beneficial to all who participate!

It all begins online on Monday, October 4th and continues until October 15th. Be sure to visit the site each day for a new posting and share your thoughts.
