The Writers' Trust of Canada Announces Finalists for Two Fiction Prizes

This morning, the Writers' Trust of Canada announced the finalists for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize and the Writers' Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize. Congratulations to all of the finalists! We were delighted to note that Miranda Hill, the founder and Executive Director of Project Bookmark Canada, is on the Journey Prize shortlist. The winners will be announced on in Toronto at the Isabel Bader Theatre on November 1st.

Finalists for the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize

The Rogers Trust Fiction Prize recognizes "the year's best novel or short story collection." Each of the finalists will receive $2,500, and the winner will receive a total of $25,000. The finalists will be reading at the International Festival of Authors in Toronto on October 26 and in Hamilton, Ontario, on October 27.

Finalists for the Writers' Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize

The Writers' Trust of Canada/McClelland & Stewart Journey Prize recognizes "new and developing writers for the best short story first published in a Canadian literary journal during the previous year." Each of the finalists will receive $1,000, and the winner will receive a total of $10,000. The journal that published the winning entry will receive $2,000.

  • Seyward Goodhand for "The Fur Trader's Daughter," published in PRISM international
  • Miranda Hill for “"Petitions to Saint Chronic,” published in The Dalhousie Review
  • Ross Klatte for "First-Calf Heifer," published in The New Orphic Review
