There are some pretty amazing places for kids to learn writing in Canada. One of them is called YouthWrite. It’s based out of Edmonton and run by Gail Sobat. Gail was one of the first people to hire me as a youth writing teacher outside of my community. She has a great sense of fun and loves to impart the knowledge of writing and creating to young people by bringing in some pretty amazing writers and artists to work with them. Recently I pinned Gail down for a virtual interview about her program.
What is YouthWrite?
YouthWrite is a camp for kids who love to write…just about anything!©
Who can attend?
Anyone between the ages of 11-19.

"I have attended a very fine weekly workshop, known as The Moving Pen, given by Sharon Singer. (The workshops are located both in the east end, and in the centre of the city.) The idea, as the name suggests, is to just keep the pen moving, in order to dislodge one's inner critic.
Sharon is an experienced, wonderfully supportive guide, with a solid capacity for establishing an environment conducive to fanning the creative juices. The groups are small, and the members all write on prompts that Sharon provides, and then, without editing, read aloud the just-written material. She participates in the groups, and is herself an excellent writer.... [Sharon] can be reached at sharongita@rogers.com."
