Dear Reader,

Open Book: Toronto is pleased to announce that the first issue of our magazine is online. It features exclusive articles by biographer George Tombs and geographer Amy Lavender Harris, a wonderfully honest interview between Bill Douglas (design guru and magazine publisher) and Michael Holmes (editor, poet, and, novelist), and an engrossing excerpt from Canadian Copyright: A Citizen's Guide by Laura Murray and Sam Trosow.

At Open Book, with a new month comes a new Writer-in-Residence. We're sad to say goodbye to September's WIR, Todd Babiak, but thrilled to welcome Zoe Whittall as October's WIR. Zoe is the author of the novel Bottle Rocket Hearts and two volumes of poetry, The Emily Valentine Poems and The Best Ten Minutes of Your Life. The Globe & Mail recently called her "the cockiest, brashest, funniest, toughest, most life-affirming, elegant, scruffy, no-holds-barred writer to emerge from Montreal since Mordecai Richler." Visit our Writer-in-Residence page to read Zoe's blog, lists of her recommended books and websites, and her interview with Open Book.
