Comic
Okay, let's put on our x-ray glasses and take a look at this Global TV news report about a comic book auction. The video starts with the reporter telling us in awed tones that a Vancouver man has put his collection of 60,000 comic books up for auction. Wow, 60,000! That’s a lot. The camera scans a large room filled with boxes and boxes of comics all securely sealed in plastic envelopes. The reporter goes on to interview the guy who is running the auction and the guy who is selling the comics (anonymously). A couple of minutes of blah blah later, the report concludes (more awed tones): “The sale is expected to bring in $200,000-$300,000.”

Wow, $200,000-$300,000 for a bunch of comic books! That’s a lot. That’s...wait, hold on, let me do the math.

300,000 / 60,000 = 5

So, the average price of a comic book at this auction will be maybe $5. Wow! That’s not a lot. Really, really, really newsworthy, wouldn’t you say: A bunch of $5 comics are up for sale?

I guess it was a slow news day in Vancouver.
