Trillium Videos, Nathan Whitlock, Interviews and Events

Dear Readers,

The Trillium Awards were handed out last week. In the week leading up to the award ceremony, Open Book: Toronto posted videos with Trillium finalists, Gil Adamson (The Outlander, House of Anansi Press), Robert Hough (The Culprits, Random House Canada), Ray Robertson (What Happened Later, Thomas Allen Publishers) and Emily Schultz (Songs for the Dancing Chicken, ECW Press). The videos were sponsored by the Ontario Media Development Corporation and produced by Ian Daffern.

Our June writer in residence is Nathan Whitlock, author of the acclaimed novel A Week Of This: A novel in seven days (ECW Press). Among other things, Nathan's blog discusses the dignity of book trailers, the worth of online social-networking tools for promoting books and interviews Zachariah Wells, editor of Jailbreaks: 99 Canadian Sonnets (Biblioasis). Send your questions and comments for Nathan to writer@openbooktoronto.com.

Photographer Lisa Myers has been covering events for Open Book. Visit our Flickr page for photos from the May 28 launch for The Withdrawal Method (House of Anansi Press) by Pasha Malla, the May 5 launch for Branding Miss G__ (Sumach Press) by Michelle Miller and the June 6 Toronto Noir (Akashic Books) readings.

We have new Ten Questions interviews on Open Book. Visit our news page to read interviews with James Laxer (Mission of Folly: Canada and Afghanistan, Between The Lines), Christopher Shulgan (The Soviet Ambassador, McClelland & Stewart) and Michael Knox (North End Poems, ECW Press). We've also posted an interview with Toronto author Maggie Helwig (Girls Fall Down), courtesy of Coach House Books.
