Rabindranath Maharaj, a finalist for the 24th annual English-language Trillium Book Award, talks about his childhood fascination with comic books and the classics of English literature, and how these two passions — along with a trip home to Ajax on the GO train — came together to inspire the writing of The Amazing Absorbing Boy (Knopf Canada). This hilarious and heart-breaking novel follows the adventures of a 17-year-old immigrant from Trinidad as he struggles to adapt to a new life in Toronto and the "big mall of a country" that is Canada.

In celebration of the Ontario writers nominated for the 24th Annual Trillium Book Award, Open Book and the Ontario Media Development Corporation are giving away pairs of tickets to the author readings and reception that will take place on Thursday June 16th, 2011 at the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon of the Toronto Reference Library.
