Pop Sandbox Presents The Next Day

Share |

Pop Sandbox — the publisher that wowed us with the brilliant and award-winning graphic novel KENK: A Graphic Portrait — has produced a groundbreaking new graphic novella, The Next Day. Written by social worker Paul Peterson and filmmaker Jason Gilmore, and illustrated by acclaimed cartoonist John Porcellino, the graphic novella is constructed from interviews with survivors of suicide attempts. In The Next Day, "four seemingly ordinary people… offer haunting personal insight into life, the decision to end it and what comes after...."

Check into Open Book in May for Whazamo!, Open Book's month-long celebration of graphic novels. We'll be chatting with the creative team behind The Next Day, posting excerpts from the graphic novella and covering the May 3rd book launch and exhibition. The 48-Hour Interview in our Spring Magazine will feature a conversation between Pop Sandbox publisher Alex Jansen and Chris Butcher of the Toronto Comic Arts Festival.

The Next Day was also developed as an interactive animated documentary, which will allow the audience to "create their own path through the original audio interviews." The documentary features animations based on John Porcellino's illustrations. It will launch in late May at nfb.ca/thenextday and tvo.org/thenextday.
