Video of the Week: Our Public Library

Share |

Toronto has the busiest library system in North America. In recent years, the library — founded in 1883 — has faced budgetary issues. The fundraising arm of the library, the Toronto Public Library Foundation, works to make up for financial shortfalls through donations and by raising awareness of the value of the library and its services.

Library funding tends to be an issue in municipal politics that inspires lively debate. As the library faces further cuts, branch closures and service reductions, grassroots organization Our Public Library (sponsored by the Toronto Public Library Workers Union) is encouraging book lovers to visit their website to learn more and discover ways to raise awareness and support the TPL.

To that end, Our Public Library has created this captivating video, narrated by best-selling, Giller Prize winning author Vincent Lam about the value of the library. Check it out and see what you think.
